Job Summary

Cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products, as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. Also perform duties related to food and final plate preparation, including plating, garnishing, and preparing appropriate garnishes for all hot menu items.

Activities & Responsibilities
  1. Promote, work, and act in accordance with the mission of Legacy Restaurant and its affiliates, including Mellow Mushroom, Burrito Gallery, and The French Pantry, to provide a unique and extraordinary guest experience that fosters loyalty.
  2. Inspect, clean, and maintain food preparation areas and equipment to ensure safe and sanitary practices.
  3. Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperatures by regulating kitchen equipment.
  4. Maintain food quality by checking freshness, tracking inventory, and rotating stock.
  5. Follow standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen policies.
  6. Ensure the quality of served products.
  7. Stock and maintain sufficient food levels at line stations for smooth service.
  8. Handle, store, and rotate food products according to policies.
  9. Cook foods evenly by turning or stirring as needed.
  10. Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment.
  11. Bake, roast, broil, and steam various foods.
  12. Measure and mix ingredients using appropriate utensils and equipment.
  13. Portion, garnish, and serve food according to standards.
  14. Test foods for doneness using tasting, smelling, or piercing methods.
  15. Follow proper plate presentation and garnishing procedures.
  16. Prepare fruits and vegetables for consumption.
  17. Carve and trim meats for service or sandwiches.
  18. Assist in food prep during off-peak times.
  19. Support team during rushes or emergencies.
  20. Follow closing procedures and assist in kitchen closing tasks.
  21. Attend meetings and suggest improvements.
  22. Coordinate with team members to meet guest needs and support operations.
  23. Fill in for colleagues as needed to ensure service standards.
Supplemental Tasks
  1. Plan menus with supervisory staff considering costs and events.
  2. Keep records and manage food procurement and inventory.
  3. Butcher and prepare meats and seafood as needed.
Tools & Technology
  • Commercial appliances: blenders, slicers, ovens, fryers, grills, microwaves, etc.
  • Cutlery and cutting machinery
  • Food safety and inventory software
  • Point of sale systems and spreadsheet software
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of kitchen preparation and cooking experience.
  • Minimum 6 months in a similar role.
  • Effective communication skills with managers and team.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work standing for long periods (up to 9 hours).
