Qualifications

Job Summary

Cook meats, eggs, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot food products. Prepare and portion food prior to cooking. Perform duties in food and final plate preparation, including plating, garnishing, and preparing garnishes for hot menu items.

Activities & Responsibilities

• Promote and act in accordance with Childers Eatery's mission.
• Inspect, clean, and maintain food prep areas to ensure safety and sanitation.
• Regulate kitchen equipment to ensure correct food storage and cooking temperatures.
• Check food and ingredients for freshness, quality, and proper stock rotation.
• Follow restaurant standards for portion sizes, cooking methods, and policies.
• Ensure the quality of served products.
• Maintain sufficient food levels at stations for smooth service.
• Handle, store, and rotate food and supplies per policies.
• Cook foods evenly by turning or stirring.
• Season and cook food using recipes or personal judgment.
• Measure and mix ingredients accurately.
• Portion, garnish, and serve food according to standards.
• Test foods for doneness via tasting, smelling, or piercing.
• Follow proper presentation and garnishing procedures.
• Prepare fruits and vegetables for cooking.
• Assist in food prep during off-peak times.
• Support other cooks during busy periods or emergencies.
• Follow closing procedures and assist in kitchen closing.
• Attend meetings and contribute suggestions.
• Coordinate with team members to meet guest needs and support operations.
• Fill in for colleagues as needed to maintain service standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 2 years of kitchen preparation and cooking experience.
• Minimum 6 months in a similar role.
• Effective communication skills with managers and team.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work standing for long periods.
