Job summary

Essex Meadows in Centerbrook, CT is seeking a Line Cook to prepare healthy, delicious dishes using herbs, vegetables and fresh, locally sourced ingredients for our upscale dining venues.

The role requires adherence to cleanliness and sanitation, timely preparation, and accurate portioning while delivering warm, inviting service to residents and guests. Full-time schedule includes days, weekends, holidays, and events as needed.

Qualifications

• Some healthcare/hospital experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, write and follow instructions in English.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization according to standards.
• Ensure food quality, appearance and presentation at all times.
• Prepare and serve menu cycles meeting nutritional criteria as required by local regulations.
• Maintain cooking standards for speed, accuracy and efficiency.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cooking preparation and production.
• Assist with meal service and ware washing as needed.
• Visit residents to evaluate food service quality and quantity, and appearance; revise procedures to improve service.
• Represent the community in a warm, inviting manner to create a positive marketing environment.

Job description

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week; Schedule to include days, weekends, holidays, and events as needed

Pay: $22.00/hr.

Essex Meadows is looking for a cook with a passion for creating healthy, delicious food dishes with herbs, vegetables and fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

Position Overview

• Exemplify at all time Community standards of cleanliness, sanitation and operation organization.
• Responsible for adhering to food quality, appearance and presentation standards at all times.
• Produce and serve menu cycle programs that are compliant with required Nutritional/Dietary criteria as required by local regulations and correctly prepare diets provided per Policy and Procedure.
• Exhibit cooking standards of speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Demonstrate knowledge in all areas of cooking preparation and production.
• Assist with serving of meals and ware washing as necessary.
• Visit residents periodically to evaluate food service such as quality, quantity, temperature, and appearance; and conduct evaluations to make revisions in operations / procedures to promote improved food service.
• Represent the community in a warm and inviting manner, which creates a positive marketing environment.

Qualifications

• Some healthcare/hospital experience is preferred along with a positive personality and a strong work ethic.
• Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write and follow oral and written instructions in English.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions.
