Job summary

GameSim is seeking a Lighting Artist to create high-quality real-time lighting across gameplay environments, cinematics, and sequences. You’ll collaborate with Art Directors, Environment Artists, VFX, and engineers to translate creative direction into lighting that supports mood, readability, and storytelling.

You will contribute to lighting pipelines, review work, and help ensure defined visual targets and performance standards are met, while coordinating with clients and internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience creating lighting for games and real-time projects.
  • Portfolio or reel demonstrating strong real-time lighting work.
  • Strong understanding of lighting fundamentals (value, color, contrast, composition).
  • Experience lighting gameplay environments or interactive real-time scenes.
  • Understanding of how lighting supports mood, readability, and environmental storytelling.
  • Experience using Unreal Engine or another modern real-time engine.
  • Experience with dynamic or baked lighting, GI, reflections, and post-processing.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned scenes and follow through to completion.
  • Experience reviewing artwork or guiding teammates with constructive feedback.
  • Ability balancing visual quality with technical requirements, production scope, and schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality real-time lighting for gameplay environments, levels, cinematics, characters, and interactive sequences.
  • Translate direction, reference, and gameplay requirements into lighting solutions.
  • Use lighting to establish mood, visual hierarchy, storytelling, and player focus.
  • Ensure lighting supports readability, navigation, and combat visibility.
  • Develop exposure, color, contrast, fog, reflections, shadows, and post-processing.
  • Create lighting for realistic, stylized, cinematic, and art-directed projects.
  • Maintain visual consistency across scenes, times of day, and lighting conditions.
  • Lead assigned lighting, review others' work, and provide clear feedback.
  • Coordinate with Art Direction, Production, Technical Art, Design, and clients.
  • Deliver work on schedule and respond to client feedback.
