Job summary

The Lifeguard role at YMCA focuses on maintaining active surveillance, enforcing safety protocols, and responding to emergencies across aquatic facilities within the YMCA estate. You will balance safety oversight with positive member engagement and water quality monitoring.

As a lifeguard, you will be a problem-solver, communicator, and customer-service representative, building relationships with members while explaining rules in a friendly and educational manner and coordinating with the YMCA

Qualifications

• Knowledge of CPR/AED, oxygen administration and water testing.
• Strong decision-making and interpersonal skills to enforce rules.
• Ability to monitor multiple pool zones and safety incidents.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous surveillance of pool zones and perform emergency rescues.
• Enforce pool rules and log safety incidents with health department records.
• Conduct pre-shift safety checks, chemical water testing, and inspect rescue gear.
• Engage members with welcoming interactions and clear policy explanations.
• Attend staff meetings and complete required in-service training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
