Job summary

The Gateway Region YMCA in O'Fallon, IL is seeking a part-time lifeguard to maintain pool safety and respond to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies. The role requires certification as a lifeguard and a minimum age of 15, with readiness to adapt to urgent situations.

Qualifications

• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately per YMCA policies; completes related reports.
• Responds to challenges with solutions in a timely manner.
• Implements safety rules for the pool and aquatic area at all times.
• Remains calm and objective under pressure or when challenged.
• Keeps accurate records as required by YMCA and state health codes.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures needed equipment is available.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions on arrival and periodically during shifts.

Description

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
• Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
