Job summary

Gateway Region YMCA is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to deliver YMCA-aligned swim lessons at our O’Fallon location. You will prepare lesson plans, teach participants, and foster positive relationships with members and families.

The role includes maintaining attendance and progress records, following safety procedures, and supervising class aides as needed. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and hold a YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent, with demonstrated swim instructor

Qualifications

• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent required.
• Must demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Builds positive relationships with members, volunteers, and participants; helps connect families with YMCA programs.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; refers participants to other programs as needed.
• Maintains required records (attendance, progress reports).
• Follows all YMCA policies and safety procedures; completes incident/accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and stores class equipment; reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

Description

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
