Job summary

Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs guard duties and provides information on beach/ocean conditions. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and 600 hours lifeguard experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent as required by the Florida Department of Health.
• 600 hours documented hands-on experience working as an ocean lifeguard.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and EMT certification required before employment.
• Must meet FAC 64J-1.008 qualifications during employment.
• Must pass Brevard County Lifeguard Performance Test annually (USLA guidelines).
• BLS/CPR certification and Emergency Medical Responder certification required.
• Completion of Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Level I Officer Training Program with FEMA ICS-100/ICS-200.
• Must maintain background checks (CJIS) and meet character standards.
• Disaster duty may be required during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Guard safety of patrons at assigned ocean beaches and provide information on beach and ocean conditions.
• Perform life-saving duties and respond to emergencies in ocean environments.
• Assist with enforcing beach rules and ensuring patron safety.
• Maintain certifications and complete required annual tests and training.
