Job summary

Brevard County Board of County Commissioners is hiring a part-time Ocean Lifeguard to guard beach patrons and provide information on beach and ocean conditions. The role includes working weekends and holidays and operating in a beach environment at beachside/countywide locations.

Applicants must complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy and obtain/maintain BLS/CPR and Emergency Medical Responder certifications.

Qualifications

• No formal training or experience required.
• Must pass the USLA Advanced Guidelines test (500 m ocean swim) and a physical agility test.
• Must complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy.
• Must possess or obtain Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification and maintain it during employment.
• Must possess or obtain Emergency Medical Responder certification and maintain it during employment.

• Performs entry-level protective service work guarding the safety of patrons at assigned ocean beaches and provides information pertaining to beach and ocean conditions.

THIS POSITION IS APPOINTIVE SERVICE/TEMPORARY

$19.73 to $21.10 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Beachside/Countywide. Part-time/Temporary. Work schedule is variable and includes weekends and holidays. Performs entry-level protective service work guarding the safety of patrons at assigned ocean beaches and provides information pertaining to beach and ocean conditions.

REQUIREMENTS: No formal training or experience required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Performance Test, which includes swimming 500 meters in an ocean environment and a physical agility test, in accordance with the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) Advanced Guidelines. Must be able to successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy. Must possess, or obtain by the completion of the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy, a Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from an approved agency and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain by the completion of the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy, an Emergency Medical Responder certification from an approved agency and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment. ***Tryouts will be conducted weekly and applicants must pre-register at [e-mail] to request a testing slot. Once registered, an invitation with a time and pool location will be provided via email.*** In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
