Job summary

Brevard County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a full-time Ocean Lifeguard to guard beach patrons and provide timely information on ocean conditions. The role requires extensive lifeguard experience, multiple certifications, and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Open until filled; salary ranges from $26.01 to $26.30 hourly, with the actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent as required by the Florida Department of Health.
• 600 hours of documented hands-on ocean lifeguard experience.
• Valid Florida driver's license required or to be obtained prior to employment.
• Valid EMT certification to maintain active status.
• Meets FAC 64J-1.008 qualifications during term of employment.
• Must pass Brevard County Lifeguard Performance Test annually (500 m ocean swim, agility).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification required and maintained.
• Emergency Medical Responder certification required and maintained.
• Completion of Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Level I Officer Training Program with FEMA IC-100 & IC-200.
• Ability to meet physical requirements per Ocean Rescue Division Manual.
• Background checks: character, FDLE, FBI, CJIS.
• Ready to perform emergency duties during disasters.

Responsibilities

• Guard the safety of beach patrons at assigned ocean beaches.
• Provide information on beach and ocean conditions to the public.
• Work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
