Job summary

The City of Miamisburg Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for the 2027 seasonal lifeguard position at Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center. Lifeguards report to Facility Assistant Managers and oversee daily safety operations at the center.

Responsibilities include water surveillance, emergency response per Red Cross Lifeguard guidelines, patron assistance, rule enforcement, report filing, cleaning, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Description

The City of Miamisburg Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for the 2027 seasonal position of Lifeguard at Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center.

Lifeguards report to Facility Assistant Managers. This position plays an integral role in the fulfillment of Miamisburg Parks and Recreation’s mission and vision. Lifeguards are responsible for the daily safety operations at the Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center.

Responsibilities include vigilant water watching and emergency response in accordance with the Red Cross Lifeguard Program. Lifeguards also assist patrons, provide rule enforcement, complete reports, clean, and perform other duties as assigned at the Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center.

Compensation

Compensation for this position is $15.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications (DOQ).

Requirements

Lifeguards will be thoroughly committed to Miamisburg Parks and Recreation mission. All candidates should have a desire to learn and uphold Aquatic Center Policy. Lifeguards should be comfortable talking to patrons and working as a team. Lifeguards must conduct themselves in a respectful and positive manner to promote the highest quality customer experience possible.

Lifeguards must be able to complete the Red Cross Lifeguard Program and First Aid/CPR/AED within 30 days of assignment.

• Must be at least 15 years old

*Must maintain certifications and licensure as a condition of employment.

A combination of education, experience and training may be applied in accordance with the City of Miamisburg policy.

The course requires the following:

• Jump into the water, submerge, recover, and complete a swim tread swim sequence consisting of a 150-yard swim, 2-minute tread using legs only, and a 50-yard swim.
• Complete a timed deep-water retrieval consisting of a 20-yard swim, retrieving a 10 lb. object from a max depth of 10 feet, a 20-yard swim on your back with the object at the surface in both hands, and exiting the pool without a ladder or steps.
• Score an 80% or higher on the final written exam.
