The University of Vermont seeks a Safety/Fire Equipment Inspector to perform inspections of fire extinguishers, sprinkler valves, CO detectors, safety showers, eye wash, egress doors, and emergency phones. You will maintain records and issue hot work permits as applicable.
Requirements include a High School Diploma with two years of fire equipment experience, knowledge of OSHA/VOSHA/NFPA, and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities include providing inspection services to a variety of safety systems including, but not limited to: fire extinguishers, sprinkler valves, carbon monoxide detectors, safety showers, eye wash systems, egress doors, emergency exit lights, and emergency phones, etc. Maintain accurate, updated records for all related equipment so that the University remains in compliance with applicable codes. Issue hot work and Red Tag permits. Access information utilizing appropriate computer software programs. Promote a work place that encourages safety in the shop and in the field. Access information utilizing appropriate desktop applications. Operate University vehicle. This position reports to a Supervisor and requires active engagement in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer experience.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
High School Diploma and two years’ experience of handling fire equipment. Knowledge of fire protection regulations such as OSHA , VOSHA , BOCA and NFPA . Experience using computers and mobile technology required. Valid driver’s license and driver’s check required. Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) while performing specific job tasks. Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check and physical screening.
Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position, A post-offer pre-employment (POPE test) physical examination is required
