Position Description

Employees in this classification are responsible for performing awide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctionalfacility. They function within their legal scope of practice and inaccordance with the policies and procedures of the organization andpractice setting. Work is performed under the direction of a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed healthcare team in providing safe and competent care to patients.

Major/Essential Functions

• Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patientresponses to assist in the identification of problems andformulation of goals/outcomes.
• Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments forexaminations, treatments and procedures.
• Assists with or performs exams and procedures and documentsintervention in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Monitors patient's medical status and reports changes in statusto supervisor or provider.
• Represents nursing in multidisciplinary treatment teammeetings.
• Administer or assist with the administration and documentationof medications.
• Responsible for completion of sick call process for unit incollaboration with all departments.
• Oversee completion is within Access to Care timeline.

Required Qualifications

• Current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, orability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete aprogram of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for aposition.
• Current CPR certification.
• Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. Newgraduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination forPractical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt.
• No experience required.
