Job summary

Special ECMCC requirements include BLS certification at the time of appointment and ongoing maintenance.

Qualifications

• Completion of a practical nursing program approved by the New York State Education Department.
• Possession of a current Licensed Practical Nurse license and registration.
• Possession of a limited Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) permit.
• Special requirement: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for ECMCC positions.
• For Health Department positions: valid NY driver's license and use of private automobile.

Responsibilities

• Maintains equipment used in the care of patients;
• Administers and documents medications;
• Performs or assists with treatments and procedures;
• Teaches patient and family health care as per care plan;
• Monitors vital signs and weights;
• Administers internal feedings;
• Records patient conditions per nursing standards;
• Notifies nurse in charge of patient status;
• Reports incidents to nurse in charge;
• Maintains interpersonal relations with patients and staff;
• Performs charge duties when needed;
• Ensures patient safety and comfort;
• Transports patients in various care facilities;
• Participates in in-service education.
