Job summary

VisionWorks in New York is seeking an Optician to assist customers with frame and lens selection, interpreting prescriptions, and providing accurate product information. The role requires maintaining HIPAA compliance and performing duties per state licensing guidelines.

The position emphasizes customer service, collaboration with Lab and Optometrist teams, and adherence to health and safety protocols in a retail optical environment.

Qualifications

• Must have and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing.
• Ability to explain optical products, services, analyze and interpret prescriptions, and fit and dispense.

Responsibilities

• Assist each customer in frame and lens selection meeting social distance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with social distancing, cleaning protocols and hygiene practices.
• Provide customers with accurate product information regarding frames, lens selections and other services.
• Provide customers insured by Third‑Party insurance with accurate information regarding benefits.
• Utilize SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and establish lens recommendations.
• Analyze and interpret patients’ prescriptions; communicate with Lab and Optometrist as needed.
• Sell, fit and dispense frames and accessories with accurate measurements and adjustments.
• Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area.
• Ensure accuracy of customer pricing for retail customers.
• Maintain license requirements per state guidelines.
• Provide feedback and guidance to Apprentice Opticians when applicable.
• Adhere to HIPAA and privacy policies.
• Participate in training and educational activities to meet goals and maintain affiliations.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment, workstations and facility daily.
