Job summary

Trident Seafoods in Seattle is looking for a qualified Mate to support vessel operations under the Master, overseeing deck, navigation and safety.

You will manage pre-season and daily operations, coordinate with the Master on budgets, training, and regulatory compliance, and lead safety drills and crew welfare. This role requires strong leadership, compliance with USCG rules, and the ability to respond to changing conditions at sea.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 2 years of experience as Mate in the fishery.
• Intermediate firefighting skills.
• Basic navigation and communication skills.
• Ability to conduct safety drills for crew and guests.
• Ability to manage the medical/first aid needs of the vessel.
• Appropriate licenses/permits of trade when required.
• Current First Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

• Assist Master in directing vessel activities including deck, engineering, production and safety.
• Lead capital projects budgeting, scheduling and compliance with licenses and regulations.
• Oversee and establish performance and operation standards for deck and navigation systems.
• Direct and oversee required documentation for primary vessel functions.
• Analyze human resource needs for short- and long-term projects.
• Consult with Master on feasibility and cost of present/future projects.
• Design and implement training to ensure crew are trained and certified.
• Forecast operating costs and prepare budget requests.
• Advise management on developments affecting profit, schedule, and costs.
• Provide direction on interpretation of company policies for deck activities.
• Maintain knowledge of new technologies to improve operations and safety.
