Job summary

The role requires a valid USCG Mate license (500 GRT+), at least 2 years of mate experience in a fishery, firefighting skills, and the ability to lead drills and safety programs aboard.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as Mate in the fishery being applied for.
  • Intermediate firefighting skills.
  • Basic navigation and communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct safety drills for crew and guests.
  • Ability to manage the medical/first aid needs of the vessel.
  • Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate tonnage, STCW endorsement) when required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR cards.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in directing deck/navigation activities under Master.
  • Oversees operational budgets, schedules, and compliance for crew and vessel duties.
  • Ensures safety policies are followed and training is up to date.
  • Maintains familiarity with regulations affecting vessel operations and crew safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Master.
