Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to estimate quantities and costs; prepare daily documentation and reports.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently in a potentially stressful environment.
• Ability to manage projects and administer contracts related to facilities operations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain EPA Certificate - Technical Type Universal.
• Ability to perform physically demanding labor in extreme heat and cold, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work on uneven ground.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints; understand and enforce building and fire codes.
• Knowledge of building trades and construction (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry).
• Possession of Virginia DPOR Master HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical license.
• Skill in using hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment; proficiency with Building Automation Systems.

Responsibilities

• Documentation for Projects: Prepare and deliver necessary paperwork to management, including photos, record drawings, manuals, and project materials; maintain records in the Maintenance Management System; report inaccuracies and contractor performance to supervisor or Facilities Manager.
• Emergency Operations: Respond to unscheduled or emergency repairs on all VDOT property types; ensure 24/7 readiness for emergencies.
• Hands-on Facilities Work: Perform trade-specific work to maintain industry standards and code compliance; complete work orders; supervise, possibly including Key Control Management and Warehouse Inventory Control.
• Permits and Work Orders: Obtain permits through VDOT procedure and issue work orders to contractors.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance and inspections; recommend parts inventory, upgrades, energy efficiency measures, and replacements when needed.
• Project and Contractor Oversight: Oversee facilities projects by contractors under term contracts and public construction; ensure code compliance and sign-off on completion; coordinate with subcontractors as needed.
