  • Maintain routine usage, inventory, or work records as assigned.
  • Refer research-intensive, account, policy, or specialized information requests to library staff.

Roxbury Community College (RCC) is a public institution of higher education offering associate degrees, certificate programs and lifelong learning opportunities to the Greater Boston community. Recommended Hours:Weekday, on-campus coverage based on student academic schedules and Library needs

Maximum Hours:18.5 hours per week

Position Summary

The Library Student Assistant provides entry-level customer service, circulation, technology, and general operational support in the RCC Library. Working under Library staff supervision, students assist RCC students and faculty at the circulation desk, help maintain organized shelves and displays, provide basic technology assistance, and complete other routine library assignments. The role is designed to build foundational skills in customer service, information support, technology, organization, communication, and workplace professionalism.

Greet library users and provide routine directional information about library spaces and services.

Shelve, straighten, sort, and organize library materials according to established procedures.

Assist with basic circulation, printing, scanning, copying, and computer-use questions as authorized.

Prepare displays, handouts, and materials for library programs.

Maintain routine usage, inventory, or work records as assigned.

Refer research-intensive, account, policy, or specialized information requests to library staff.

Currently enrolled at Roxbury Community College for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Have an active Federal Work-Study award and sufficient remaining FWS eligibility before beginning work.

Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) in accordance with institutional and financial-aid requirements.

Complete all required student-employment and payroll documentation before beginning work.

Work only the approved FWS schedule and duties assigned by the designated RCC supervisor.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled RCC student in good standing and eligible for Federal Work-Study.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with PCs, Macs, and mobile devices.

Familiarity with MyRCC, Pharos, and RCC email systems.

Practical experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Previous customer-service, office, technology-support, or library experience.

Additional Information:
Federal Work-Study Compliance Notes

This FWS assignment is part-time, on-campus student employment and is contingent upon continued Federal Work-Study eligibility and available award funding.

FWS students may perform only the duties identified for the FWS assignment and approved by the supervisor; Learn & Earn responsibilities are not interchangeable with FWS duties.

Students and supervisors are responsible for monitoring scheduled hours so the student does not exceed the approved FWS award or institutional work-hour limits.

Timesheets must accurately reflect hours actually worked and be approved by the designated supervisor through the College's approved timekeeping process.

Funding & Scheduling Structure

Two Library Student Assistant placements are authorized through Federal Work-Study. In accordance with RCC's student employment structure, FWS students in this role are assigned to on-campus weekday coverage only. Individual schedules will be established around academic commitments and Library operational needs. Students may work no more than 18.5 hours per week.

Supervision & Performance

The Library Student Assistant reports to Ted Intarabumrung or another designated Library supervisor. Students will receive role-specific training, regular supervision, feedback, and professional-development opportunities. Student employees must follow RCC Student Employment and Library policies and procedures.Performance concerns will be addressed through RCC's progressive intervention process.
