Job summary

King William County Library System seeks a Supervisor to lead Library Associate staff, oversee circulation duties, and ensure quality patron service. The role emphasizes supervising teams, training, and coordinating with librarians on programs and collections.

The position requires a HS diploma or GED (Bachelor’s preferred), and several years in a library with supervisory experience; bilingual abilities and MS Office skills are a plus. Regular days, evenings, and weekends are expected.

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 3 years library experience and 1 year supervisory experience.
• Proficiency with library systems and databases.
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
• English/Spanish speaking is a plus.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work a schedule including days, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, provide library tours and assist patrons in all areas.
• Supervise Library Associates, manage performance, hiring, training and timesheets.
• Collaborate with librarians to plan and promote programming.
• Process newly acquired materials with stamps and labels.
• Inform patrons of rules and enforce them when needed.
• Maintain circulation records and handle mailings for homebound programs.
• Support opening/closing procedures and assist at the reference desk.
• Coordinate volunteers and train staff for effective teamwork.
• Demonstrate problem-solving, planning and organizational skills.
• Adapt to change and contribute to strategic planning.
• Protect patron privacy and comply with related policies.
