Job summary

Montgomery County Public Library in an urban county library system seeks a friendly, customer-focused team member to provide direct service at desks, assist patrons with materials and technology, and help grow program offerings across all locations.

You will educate patrons, process registrations and payments, and support the material handling and shelving workflow while contributing to a welcoming library environment.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service, administrative/general office or related experience.
• Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have dependable transportation.
• A pre-employment criminal background check is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service at service desks; greets and screens visitors.
• Works at service desks, assisting patrons with checking out materials and using public computers.
• Registers patrons for library cards, helps with fees, places holds and processes payments.
• Educates patrons in locating materials and using library technologies.
• Performs regular tasks relating to the Automated Materials Handling System and basic troubleshooting.
• Participates in programming for patrons of all ages.
• Helps decorate and create displays to enhance the atmosphere.
• Sorts and shelves library materials; assists with weeding and collection development.
• Repairs materials and provides library tours and talks.
