Saint Paul Public Libraries is seeking a Library Safety Specialist to help create a safe, welcoming environment across our library system. You will work with staff and patrons, engage with the community, and support policy enforcement.

The role involves emergency response leadership, building crisis planning, and providing guidance during incidents, with a flexible schedule including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Five years of safety and security experience in security, law enforcement, program or project management, conflict resolution, or restorative practices.
• A bachelor’s degree in social work, Criminal Justice, Occupational Safety, Psychology, or a related field can substitute for four years of experience. An associate degree can substitute for two years.
• Other types of educational experience and/or professional certifications that confer similar levels of specialized knowledge can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsabilités

• Contribute to a safe and welcoming environment by providing a supportive presence to staff and patrons
• Engage in the library community and build relationships with patrons
• Respond to behaviors against library policy and help de-escalate elevated behaviors
• Provide technical expertise in emergency response and help lead the organization’s building crisis and emergency management efforts
• Communicate and enforce the library conduct policy and assist other staff in enforcing it
• Serve as the lead in emergency situations and provide guidance and instruction to others on building emergency management plans and procedures
