Job summary

The City of Saint Paul is seeking a Library Safety Specialist to enhance safety and a welcoming environment across library spaces. You will provide a visible, supportive presence to staff and patrons, manage escalating behavior, and help lead emergency response planning.

This role requires building community relationships, enforcing conduct policies, and coordinating with multiple library locations on a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Five years of safety and security experience in security, law enforcement, program or project management, conflict resolution, or restorative practices.
• A bachelor’s degree can substitute for four years of experience; an associate degree can substitute for two years.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the safe and welcoming environment by providing a supportive presence to staff and patrons
• Engage in the library community and build relationships with patrons
• Respond to behaviors against library policy and help de-escalate elevated behaviors
• Provide technical expertise in emergency response and help lead building crisis and emergency management
• Communicate and enforce the library conduct policy and assists other staff in enforcing it
• Lead emergency situations and provide guidance on building emergency plans and procedures
