Job summary

City of Suffolk is seeking a professional librarian assistant to provide reference interviews, research, and bibliographic instruction, and to promote services through classes and programs. The role involves assisting patrons with catalog navigation, materials requests, and public computers, under supervision.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and/or at least five years of related experience, including library settings, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• A combination of higher education and/or experience equivalent to 5 years, 1 of which must have been in a library setting or closely related customer service field.
• Requires a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of library routines, bookmobile procedures, and OPAC systems is preferred.
• Ability to instruct patrons in the use of library resources and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct reference interviews and research to determine best sources for customers.
• Instruct users in library catalog and electronic resources.
• Plan and coordinate classes, events, and programs.
• Maintain and update the library catalog and collection.
• Prepare reports on reference usage and program participation.
