Job summary

The Cleveland Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Substitute for multiple positions. The role requires availability for varied shifts including weekends, and travel to the Main Library and neighborhood branches.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of customer service experience in a public-service setting, and basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills. Prior public library experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience: One year's customer service experience, preferably in an urban community-based organization.
• Technical: Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office (70% pass) and customer service training at 70%.
• Read, understand, and communicate information in writing.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and terminology.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons to find and reserve materials and facilitate computer use.
• Assist with library programming and services.
• Perform clerical tasks including word processing, filing, and answering phones with good etiquette.
• Charge and discharge materials and route materials.
• Issue and replace library cards and review patron records.
• Process requests for materials and prepare items for transit.
• Handle materials processing including receiving, transferring, and withdrawing items.
• Maintain respectful relations with patrons and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
