Job summary

Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, ME is seeking a Substitute Librarian for Adult, Lending, and Youth Services on a per diem basis. The role emphasizes digital literacy, current literature knowledge, and strong readers’ advisory skills to assist adult and youth patrons.

The substitute may work weekdays and weekends, including evenings, with a commitment of at least one four-hour shift per month. MLS degree or degree pending in 2026 is required; public library experience is preferred.

Substitute Librarian, Adult, Lending, and Youth Services

Curtis Memorial Library has an opportunity for a customer-focused professional to provide library services in adult, lending, and
youth services areas on a per diem basis. The successful candidate will have proficiencywith digital literacy,extensive knowledge of current literature and information sources relevant to adult and youth patrons, and skill in providing in-depth readers’ advisory and information assistance. T helibrarianwill ensurea safe and positive environment for patrons andmay serve asthe personinchargewithin the library.

We are looking for a substitute with availabil ity to work weekdays and weekends, including evenings. A commitment for each substitute wouldbeto workat least one four-hourshift a month. We currently have a Saturday differential pay, which will be an extra $5 an hour when working on a Saturday.

An MLSdegree, ora degreepending in2026, is required;public libraryexperience isstrongly preferred. The pay rate is $27.69/hr.

A substitute librarian may be called to fill in long- or short-term during regular staff absences.
