Job summary

The City of Flagstaff is seeking a Library Specialist to provide direct service to patrons, assist with computers and research, and interpret library policies. This role plans and leads adult and/or youth programming, coordinates venues and presenters, prepares content and materials, and develops promotional materials.

Additionally, the Specialist supports collection development by assessing needs, selecting materials, placing orders, and may serve as shift lead with supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications

• Associates degree or 60 completed college credits.
• Two (2) years of relevant experience in a library or related field.
• One (1) year of experience must be in a library setting (full-time preferred).
• A combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent customer service to library patrons.
• Assist patrons with computers and research, answer questions, interpret policies to answer patron questions.
• Handles patron complaints and incidents per library policy (including incident reports).
• Maintains and distributes community information.
• Selects and deselects materials and places orders as needed.
• Performs Reader’s Advisory services.
• Plans, develops, and prepares programming for adults and/or youth, including scheduling venues and coordinating presenters.
• Checks materials in/out, issues library cards, and handles payments for fines or lost items.
• Places holds and retrieves materials for patrons.
• Assesses and markets library programs and services to the public.
• Helps staff with grant planning and writing when needed.
• Assists with OPAC and online databases usage and basic computing issues.
• Assists with Inter-Library Loan requests.
• Processes materials for circulation and sorts donations.
• Promotes library programs and updates calendars; may write press releases.
• Acts as a shift lead and provides supervision when needed.
• Communicates day-to-day tasks to volunteers.
