Job summary

The Library Systems & Services, LLC in Virginia seeks an Assistant Library Director to oversee library operations and lead the Circulation and Technical Services teams. This role reports to the Library Director and emphasizes exceptional customer service, staff development, and community engagement.

You will manage daily operations, develop programs, track usage data, and ensure policy compliance while maintaining an inviting, organized space for patrons and staff alike.

Qualifications

• MLS/MSLS degree required.
• 1–3 years of public library experience preferred; supervisory experience required.
• Experience tracking usage statistics and creating Excel reports.
• Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• Accommodate a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Manages both Technical Services and Circulation Services teams, including hiring, training, scheduling, and development.
• Help manage library collection.
• Supervises day-to-day operations of the library.
• Develops, plans, promotes, and participates in programs and events.
• Gathers and maintains information/data for reports.
• Writes and implements program grants.
• Provides effective communication on procedures to staff and the public.
• Assists with HR policies and processes.
• Responds to patron issues and enforces policy.
• Maintains an attractive, organized library and creates displays.
• Provide backup to the Library Director as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
