Job summary

Library Systems & Services Llc in Manassas Park, VA is seeking an Assistant Library Director to oversee library operations, supervise Circulations and Technical Services, and ensure excellent customer service to patrons.

Reporting to the Library Director, the successful candidate will help develop programs, manage staff, track usage data, prepare reports, and maintain an engaging, equitable library environment with flexible scheduling. Experience in public libraries and MLS/MLIS is preferred.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS degree required or preferred.
• One to three years of public library experience preferred.
• Management/supervisory experience required.
• Experience tracking usage statistics, data collection and Excel reports.
• Ability to build strong staff teams and develop staff.
• Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills.
• Superior customer service skills.
• Accommodate a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Excellent technical skills, including familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Suite, and knowledge of various technologies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Technical Services and Circulations Services teams with hiring, training, scheduling, and development.
• Help manage library collection.
• Supervise day-to-day operations of the library.
• Develop, plan, promote, and participate in programs and events.
• Gather and maintain data for reports documenting activities.
• Write and implement program grants.
• Communicate procedures and processes to staff and the public.
• Assist with HR policies and procedures.
• Respond to patron issues and enforce policies.
• Maintain an attractive, organized library with displays and programs.
• Provide backup to the Library Director as needed.
• Follow legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy.
