Job summary

Dedicated to fostering lifelong learning, Addison Public Library invites applicants who enjoy assisting patrons, handling checkout processes, and resolving account issues in a diverse community. Evening and weekend availability is required, with a schedule rotating across multiple shifts.

This role emphasizes privacy, courteous customer interactions, and teamwork in a busy library environment, including at the drive-up window and self-checkout stations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• One year of experience working with the public is required.
• The ability to use computer, telephone and other office equipment.
• Preference will be given to bilingual candidates (English plus Polish or Spanish or other patron languages).

Responsibilities

• Deliver GREAT service following our Patron Experience Guidelines.
• Enforce Patron Behavior Guide with professionalism and empathy.
• Handle patron data with confidentiality.
• Serve patrons at multiple service points, including drive-up window.
• Check out/check in materials, issue library cards, and collect fines accurately.
• Answer phones, provide information, and route calls.
• Enter data for transactions accurately.
• Process delivery bins, handle kits and returns, check for missing or damaged items.
• Troubleshoot patron account issues using technology and in-person follow-up.
• Monitor and tidy public areas and report maintenance needs.
• Assist patrons using self-checkout stations.
