Job summary

The Cumberland Public Library is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform cleaning, basic repairs and building upkeep to ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment for patrons and staff.

You will support security functions and work under the Facility Manager, requiring independent judgment and the ability to follow procedural guidelines. Role includes physical tasks and occasional non-routine problem solving.

Qualifications

• Two years minimum experience in building maintenance or related trades.
• Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance materials, methods and equipment.
• Ability to perform maintenance tasks with limited supervision.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and plant operations tasks (opening/closing building, cleaning floors, waxing, polishing surfaces).
• Assist in oversight of service contracts and vendors.
• Vacuum carpeted areas; dust surfaces; manage trash and recycling.
• Check and reload paper/soap dispensers; clean restrooms; sanitize kitchens.
• Identify and perform minor repairs (lighting, plumbing, electrical) and basic equipment maintenance.
• Respond to non-routine problems with building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
• Support security-related duties and enforce library rules of conduct.
