Job summary

Cumberland Public Library is seeking a part-time custodian/maintenance worker to help keep the building clean, secure, and welcoming. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, ladder use, and a supervisory framework under the FACILITIES MANAGER. Evening and occasional Sunday shifts are required.

The position emphasizes teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to learn new skills while prioritizing tasks and exercising sound judgment to support daily operations of the library building.

Qualifications

• Ability to carry and move up to 50 pounds.
• Climb ladders.
• Flexible and adaptable; able to work on a team or independently.
• Willingness to prioritize tasks and learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Clean staff and public restrooms and replenish supplies.
• Clean and maintain public areas on the first and second floors, plus staff offices.
• Remove trash and recycling from public and staff areas.
• Assist with setup and breakdown for library events.
• Perform building closing duties: setting alarms, locking doors, and security checks.
• Remove snow and salt pavement during winter months; snow blower use.
• Assist with monitoring the building for possible facility issues.
• Perform carpentry, painting, and repair tasks as needed.
