Job summary

Mercer County Library System is seeking a reliable Building Maintenance Worker to support cleaning and upkeep of interior and exterior facilities. The role requires independent work, task management, and responding to weather-related needs while maintaining a respectful public service environment.

The position offers full-time hours (37.5/wk), a standard Monday–Friday schedule, and occasional evenings or weekends for special programs or events.

Qualifications

Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment for surfaces and furnishings.
Ability to operate and adjust cleaning equipment (vacuums, polishers, floor machines).
Capable of lifting/moving moderately heavy objects and organizing cleaning tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

Cleans and maintains offices, restrooms, public areas, and meeting rooms.
Dusts, polishes, vacuums, washes windows, and maintains floors.
Assists trades staff with tools, setup, and cleanup tasks.
Supports delivery operations and assists with packing/unpacking materials.
Empties waste and recycling bins; helps move books, furniture, and supplies.
Sets up and breaks down rooms for meetings and events.
Operates and maintains cleaning equipment; performs basic painting and decorating.
Provides seasonal maintenance (landscaping, snow removal).
Uses systems to maintain basic records.
Participates in deliveries and general branch support as needed.
