Job summary

Fayetteville Public Library is seeking a Maintenance Worker in Fayetteville, AR to perform routine maintenance on mechanical equipment, assist in repairs, groundskeeping, event logistics, and safety planning. The role reports to the Director of Facilities and Sustainability and requires hands-on skills across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry disciplines.

The position is full-time, on-site, with an hourly wage range of $18.17 to $22.72.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 3 years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in building and construction trades or related areas.
• Proficient in use of construction tools, power tools, and light lawn equipment; knowledge of basic HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and plumbing principles.
• Intermediate language skills including the ability to read and interpret safety rules, blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; read and understand simple instructions, notes and memos.
• Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, and measurement of quantities such as fluid ounces, gallons and pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on mechanical equipment including the library's book conveyor system and in-house cleaning machines.
• Assist in minor and major repairs and upgrades to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, rooftop, security, and facilities-related items.
• Assist grounds keepers and maintain an orderly landscape including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating and fertilizing lawns; replace plants; maintain sprinklers and ground maintenance equipment.
• Support in logistics for library-sponsored events and other events; oversee meeting room setup and assist with the Lead Custodian.
• Respond to communications from police, fire department, security central station, and staff during working and nonworking hours.
• Supervise the recycling program and educate staff for improvement.
• Assist in safety and security planning and emergency procedures.
• Write action plans for facility upkeep such as painting and cleaning schedules.
• Serve as senior-most staff member and assume delegated responsibilities for Facilities Department.
• Perform custodial cleaning as needed and act as a primary contact for facility emergencies on a schedule.
• Train staff and supervise volunteers on special projects; communicate effectively with customers about library products, services, policies and conduct.
• Maintain library assets and ensure building security; report safety and security issues with detailed incident reports.
• Demonstrate time management, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities.
