Job summary

FRANKLIN COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM seeks a full-time Custodian to maintain clean, safe library facilities in Chambersburg, PA. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and setup/breakdown of furniture for programs and events.

The role requires experience in custodial work, ability to perform light maintenance and simple repairs, and strict adherence to safety guidelines. Candidates should be able to lift and move furniture and work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Experience in custodial or janitorial work, including routine cleaning, floor care, and restroom maintenance.
• Ability to perform basic building maintenance tasks, such as minor repairs, light bulb replacement, and simple equipment troubleshooting.
• Capacity to lift, move, and arrange furniture and materials, and to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods as required.
• Knowledge of safe use of cleaning products and equipment, and adherence to safety and health guidelines.
• Reliable time management skills, with the ability to follow schedules and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, welcoming environment for library users.
• Collaborative attitude and respectful communication skills when working with staff and the public.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior custodial experience in public or community facilities is a plus.
• Ability to pass any required background checks in accordance with applicable laws and library policies.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and remove trash in public areas, restrooms, offices and meeting rooms.
• Set up and break down furniture and equipment for library programs and events.
• Monitor building conditions and report maintenance needs; perform minor repairs under supervision.
• Support safety and accessibility through established procedures and teamwork.
• Assist with basic cleaning supply inventory and storage stewardship.
