Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Support I — Library to perform routine cleaning and sanitation of library facilities and grounds. Duties include cleaning floors, walls, windows, restrooms, break areas, and public spaces, plus waste removal and basic safety observations.

Salary ranges from $17.2179 to $19.9580 per hour, reflecting Step 1 to Step 4 on a 7‑step pay scale. Hiring pay dependent on education, experience, and training, with additional differential pay for

Qualifications

• Ability to follow basic written instructions and simple diagrams.
• Six (6) months' experience doing general custodial work, or equivalent.
• Must be able to answer basic questions from the public in a courteous manner.
• A valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine cleaning and sanitation duties.
• Uses vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, polishers, as well as hand cleaning supplies to maintain facilities.
• Safely uses cleaning chemicals, some of which may be caustic or may produce toxic gases if improperly mixed with one another.
• Removes waste material to dumpsters and recycling materials to proper collection locations.
• Removes snow from sidewalk areas and ensures that ice conditions are treated with salt or sand.
• Waters plants inside buildings and in the immediate outdoor areas.
• Cleans break areas.
• Cleans and maintains supplies in restrooms.
• Monitors for and removes graffiti.
• Performs a regular cleaning and janitorial materials inventory and notifies the supervisor when material stocks are low.
