Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking a Custodian to maintain cleanliness of public buildings, restrooms, offices and common areas. You will operate vacuums, floor machines, carpet cleaners and safe cleaning chemicals while following safety procedures and reporting hazards to supervisors.

This position offers five 8‑hour night shifts (midnight to 8:30 a.m.) and a step‑based pay scale. Hiring salary depends on education, experience and training, with eligibility for advancement within the 7‑step system.

Qualifications

• Must pass pre-employment drug test and federal fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
• Must be able to read, write, interpret written instructions and complete simple math.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning floors, walls, windows, restrooms, work areas, break areas and public access areas of public buildings.
• Removing waste materials and collecting recyclable materials.
• Using vacuums, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners and polishers; handling cleaning chemicals safely.
• Observes safety hazards and security issues and reports them to authorities.
• Performs light mechanical repairs and basic maintenance tasks.
• May assist with setting up tables/chairs and AV equipment for events.
