Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Customer Services Specialist for the Marion Franklin Branch to provide exceptional service at the primary customer contact point. The role includes assisting with library accounts, helping patrons with materials and technology, and maintaining a welcoming branch environment.

Starting pay is $18.01–$23.26 per hour, commensurate with experience. The position is full-time (40 hours) and non-exempt, with benefits supporting health, retirement, and work-life

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Internet and database services.
• Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs and other job-related equipment and systems.
• Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations.

Responsibilities

• Processes and sorts materials accurately and efficiently, including returns and new materials as needed.
• Greeting customers and responding to basic reference questions in person or remotely; guiding to staff and resources.
• Assist customers with library card accounts, applications, and payments; enforce account rules and accurate information.
• Manage cash drawers, deposits, and related reporting.
• Resolve customer account disputes by interviewing and negotiating.
• Assist with opening/closing procedures, stock and signage cleanliness, and office tasks as assigned.
• Maintain library collection by handling, cleaning, and reshelving materials.
• Provide training on library technology to customers and staff; coordinate with IT staff as needed.
• Coordinate volunteers and orient new staff to Customer Services tasks.
• Perform additional duties including task forces or committees.
