Job summary

The New York Public Library seeks a Library Manager for Jerome Park Library who will provide leadership to a team of public service professionals. The role focuses on day-to-day operations, staff development, and strong community engagement in a Bronx neighborhood branch.

Reporting to the Associate Director, you will drive programs, partnerships, and exceptional customer service while managing the branch budget and resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Substantial public library experience with administrative, supervisory, and leadership roles.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including the ability to be an enthusiastic ambassador for the Library.
• Experience supervising, training, and mentoring staff.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, identify problems, and implement solutions.

Responsibilities

• Manages day-to-day branch operations including information, circulation, outreach and programming services.
• Hires and develops staff in accordance with Library policies.
• Oversees branch appearance, furniture, supplies, and budget.
• Develops strategies to enhance on-site user experience using statistics and local needs.
• Builds partnerships with local businesses and community leaders to strengthen community ties.
• Collaborates with Programming units to offer innovative programs for the community.
• Maintains and updates the Library’s collection profile and communicates needs to Collection Development.
• Prioritizes exceptional customer service and resolves patron issues.
• Collaborates with Network Manager to maintain reliable services and technology.
• Stays current in library trends through professional development.
