Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries is seeking a Library Access Services Specialist to act as Manager on Duty, supporting circulation, desk operations, and safety across campus libraries. This evening/overnight role requires supervising student staff, handling inquiries, and enforcing policies while ensuring welcoming service.

Work includes remote options up to 20% and a home location at College Library with occasional duties at other library locations.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, faculty, students, and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize workload across multiple tasks.
• Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and stand/move for extended periods.
• Experience in a library setting or customer-facing environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides complex support to day-to-day library operations and guides patrons in using library resources.
• Contributes to policy and procedure development and participates in committee work.
• Hires, trains, and mentors student employees and oversees their workflows.
• Manages overnight operations, safety procedures, and building access with Wiscard procedures.
• Perform reference searches and assist patrons with navigating UW–Madison resources.
• Contributes to continuous improvement within Access Services and collaborates across locations.
