Job summary

Washington State House of Representatives seeks Legislative Assistants to support their assigned Representative in fulfilling duties, including administration, office management, research, bill tracking, and constituent correspondence. This is a full-time year-round exempt position based in Olympia, with session work onsite and interim options.

Qualifications

  • Two years of office management and administrative support experience.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple responsibilities with professional judgment and confidentiality.
  • Strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills for professional correspondence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and video conferencing tools.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operation of Olympia and/or district office.
  • Maintain office records in accordance with state law.
  • Answer phone lines and constituent inquiries, serving as first point of contact.
  • Coordinate communication with constituents and government agencies; research and resolve issues.
  • Draft responses to emails, letters, and calls on behalf of the Representative.
  • Identify and monitor district-specific issues and travel arrangements for the office.
  • Track advancement of bills and deadlines; liaise with policy staff for briefings.
  • Prepare detailed accounting reports for member travel and expense reimbursements.
  • Represent the office at legislative and community events as needed.
  • Collaborate with Public Information Officer on articles, newsletters, and speeches.
