Job summary

Burr & Forman LLP, located in Birmingham, AL, seeks a full-time Legal Practice Assistant for our Healthcare practice group. The role supports attorneys with administrative, litigation and corporate tasks, including document preparation, e-filing, calendar management and client communications.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years’ legal support experience, an associate degree or equivalent, and proficiency in Microsoft Word with typing 50 wpm.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience as a legal secretary/assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department environment.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proficient with computer programs including Microsoft Word and ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Highly organized, detail-orientated, proactive with a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team.
  • Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Some overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, edit, and proof contracts, agreements, deal documents, briefs, memos, reports, pleadings, correspondence and other similar documents
  • Perform complex administrative duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and legal processes
  • E-filing documents in district/state/federal courts
  • Schedule and coordinate logistics for meetings, travel, depositions, and hearings
  • Maintain calendars including court appearances and transaction deadlines
  • Enter billable time and edit time and pre-bills as needed
  • Process expense reimbursements
  • Answer incoming calls; prepare documents for shipment; and distribute mail
  • Open and maintain client files and organizational documents
  • Respond to inquiries for information
  • Other responsibilities as needed

Job description

Burr & Forman LLP is seeking a full-time Legal Practice Assistant in our Birmingham, AL office in our Healthcare practice group. This role will provide a variety of administrative, litigation, and corporate legal support services with an intense focus on providing exceptional service to our clients. Key responsibilities include preparing and filing legal documents, managing case files, scheduling appointments, and facilitating communication with attorneys and clients, exhibiting commitment to integrity and excellence.
