RichardsonClement PC is a Birmingham-based law firm serving clients in railroad defense
litigation, intellectual property, and general business and commercial litigation. A legal assistant
must be detail-oriented to support our attorneys across a fast-paced, varied caseload.
Position Summary
The Legal Assistant provides administrative and case-management support to one or more
attorneys, handling document preparation, court filings, calendaring, client communication, and
file organization. This role requires strong organizational skills, discretion with confidential
information, and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple practice areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
- File documents with state and federal courts, including e-filing (e.g., CM/ECF)
- Maintain attorney calendars, docket deadlines, and case files
- Coordinate scheduling for depositions, hearings, mediations, and client meetings
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and expert witnesses
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files, including discovery materials
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit and binder assembly
- Track and process incoming mail, service of process, and firm correspondence
- Support billing functions, including timekeeping review and invoice preparation
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and document management
- systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Preferred
- Minimum 2 years of legal assistant or legal secretary experience
- Experience with federal court e-filing systems (CM/ECF)
- Familiarity with litigation support software (e.g., NetDocuments)
- Prior experience in litigation, insurance defense, or IP practice
- Notary public commission (or willingness to obtain)
