Job summary

NC State University is seeking an experienced instructor to deliver lectures for Biomedical Engineering courses in alignment with the syllabus and university calendar. Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures that follow the course objectives as stated on the syllabus.
  • Assess student performance via exams, projects, lab work, and homework.
  • Oversee lab components when present, ensuring safety and meaningful content.
  • Grade exams, papers, and projects in a timely manner and provide office hours support.
  • When a teaching assistant is provided, supervise the TA and coordinate assignments within workload limits.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

About the Department

The mission of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is to provide leadership through exceptional educational programs and experiences that prepare engineers and scientists to meet the challenges of biomedical discovery and applications of engineering to medicine. The research and entrepreneurship of the faculty, students, and staff aim to accumulate, generate, and disseminate biomedical engineering knowledge to improve health care for the benefit of the people of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.

Job Responsibilities
  • Delivery of lectures that cover the course objectives as stated on the course syllabus following the NCSU university calendar for the given semester.
  • Assessment of student performance, including exams, projects, laboratory assignments, and homework assignments as outlined on the course syllabus.
  • If the course contains a lab section: oversee the laboratory component to ensure successful completion of student objectives, maintain appropriate safety measures, provide meaningful lab content, and coordinate the lab with lecture sessions.
  • All other responsibilities associated with teaching the course, including grading exams, papers, and projects in a timely manner and providing help to students during office hours.
  • When a teaching assistant is provided, supervise the teaching assistant and coordinate assignments that do not exceed the assistant’s workload.
Other Responsibilities

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
  • Expertise in the subject area of the course to be taught.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
