Job summary

Boston University seeks an Learning & Event Technology Specialist I to support AV/IT systems in classrooms and events across campus. You will install, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment, coordinate with senior staff on complex service calls, and help train students and clients in using classroom technology.

This onsite role may include on-call hours and occasional evening or weekend work, reflecting the high-visibility, client-focused nature of live events and classes at BU.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years AV/IT support experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Operation and troubleshooting of AV/IT systems in classrooms, meetings, and live events.
  • Support for livestreams, fully virtual events, and audience response systems.
  • Valid driver’s license strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy equipment up to 75 pounds.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison. Position:Learning & Event Technology Specialist I – Events & Classrooms In this role, you will:

  • Operate, install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot a wide variety of established and emerging AV/IT technology.
  • Provide intermediate-level support for classrooms, meetings, and events across all BU campuses.
  • Use independent judgment to prioritize incoming requests, attend complex service calls alongside Level II, III, and Senior technology specialists to build your skills, and help train clients and student workers on classroom technology.
  • This is a high visibility role, with daily client interactions that require excellent interpersonal communication skills and care, as we value strong customer service skills in order to deliver a best-in-class client experience.

Required Skills
  • 1+ years of experience working with AV/IT technology in a support role (fellowships or a targeted AV/IT training program may count).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Operation and troubleshooting of AV/IT systems in classrooms, meetings, and live events, including full live meeting and event support, livestreams, and fully virtual events.
  • Support for audience response, digital signage, projection systems, AV/IT control and switching equipment, audio amplifiers and mixers, lecture capture, and video recording and production equipment.
  • Valid driver's license strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy equipment. (up to 75 pounds)

Bonus Qualifications:

  • AVIXA Recognized AV Specialist and/or Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification.
  • Familiarity with remote assistance tools (e.g., Bomgar) and enterprise management software. (e.g., Crestron Fusion)
  • Working knowledge of media management systems such as Kaltura.
  • Experience supporting Windows and macOS hardware and software, desktop applications, peripherals, and mobile devices.
  • Awareness of ADA/Section 508 accessibility concepts for live events and classroom.
  • Follow established business processes and procedures, work within our ticketing system, and keep accurate records of incidents and requests while working in the field.
  • Ability to work productively in cross-functional and matrix-reporting teams, as well as independently, exhibiting sound decision-making in fast-changing situations.
  • Working knowledge of video streaming platforms, network delivery methods, and streaming protocols.
  • Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow)
