Job summary

The Librarian at Tarrant County College, Southeast Campus, reports to the campus leader and provides direct assistance to library users with services and resources, including research, material selection, and developing strategies that support student success and the Learning Commons mission.

This role emphasizes collaboration with faculty to design instruction and learning objectives, offers orientations and online learning objects, and contributes to information literacy.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA)accredited program
  • Two (2) years' working experience related to the EssentialPerformance Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Uses existing and emerging technologies to enhance libraryservices and instruction.
  • Assists in reviewing and revising appropriate guidelines andprocedures to ensure the efficient and effective operation of thelibraries.
  • Trains and supervises support staff and student workers asdirected.
  • Gathers and compiles data, creates reports, and analyzes librarystatistics; assists in making data-based recommendations forcontinuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop instruction opportunitiesand learning objectives to meet the needs of students and thecollege community; provides orientations, tours, classpresentations, and online learning objects that support successfuldevelopment of information literacy and research skills.
  • Serves on search advisory committees to select new employees asneeded.
  • Assumes responsibility for library operations as directed in theabsence of the Director and Assistant Director.
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and evaluating the collectionto support instructional programs, community needs, and lifelonglearning pursuits.
  • Participates in campus and College committees asappropriate.
  • Helps to promote library awareness and use, markets libraryresources and programs to students, faculty and staff
  • Stays informed on changing professional practices andadvancements in the fields of libraries, student learning, andacademic technology
  • Works with other members of the library, learning commons,campus, and College to meet the goals and mission of the libraryand the college
  • Travels throughout Tarrant County as needed
  • Promotes and maintains an effective learning environment in theLearning Commons
  • Actively participates in college-wide conversation on studentengagement and success
  • Assists in building and maintaining community relations includingfaculty, staff, students, administrators, and the community topromote the library and the college; presents a positive image ofthe College's academic support services
  • Performs other related responsibilities as necessary to advanceand ensure the success of the Learning Commons
  • Identifies, cultivates, and develops effective and innovativeoutreach and engagement activities, making direct connections tostudents, faculty, staff, and the community at large to activelypromote the role of the library as a partner and supportscollaborations and activities that enhance student, faculty, andstaff success at all levels
