Job summary

Quanex, located in Trumann, AR, is seeking a Buyer and Planner to ensure materials are available for daily production and to coordinate purchasing across supplier networks. The role supports Lean initiatives and production scheduling with a strong emphasis on inventory accuracy and cycle counts.

You will create and manage purchase orders, monitor supplier performance, and travel occasionally for vendor visits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of purchasing, inventory control, materials management, or related experience.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and inventory management systems.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a Lean manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure raw materials and components are available to meet daily production requirements.
• Issue, monitor, and close production orders while maintaining schedule accuracy.
• Perform and reconcile cycle counts, investigating variances using root-cause analysis methods.
• Maintain the integrity of Kanban systems and production scheduling processes.
• Monitor inventory levels and recommend improvements to inventory turns and material flow.
• Create and manage purchase orders and blanket order releases for local vendors.
• Track and expedite supplier orders to ensure on-time delivery and uninterrupted production.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for suppliers and support vendor performance evaluations.
• Support compliance with company purchasing procedures, Sarbanes-Oxley, and ISO requirements.
• Ability to travel occasionally for vendor visits
