Job summary

Quanex is seeking a proactive Buyer and Planner to join our Trumann, AR operations. You will ensure materials are available for daily production, manage inventory accuracy, and coordinate purchasing with local suppliers in a Lean manufacturing setting.

In this role, you will support production schedules, monitor Kanban systems, and engage with cross-functional teams to optimize material flow. Travel to vendors is occasional, and the position offers competitive pay with bonus potential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of purchasing, inventory control, materials management, or related experience.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and inventory management systems.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building with internal teams and external suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure raw materials and components are available to meet daily production requirements.
• Issue, monitor, and close production orders while maintaining schedule accuracy.
• Perform and reconcile cycle counts, investigate variances using root-cause analysis.
• Maintain integrity of Kanban systems and production scheduling processes.
• Monitor inventory levels and recommend improvements to inventory turns and material flow.
• Create and manage purchase orders and blanket order releases for local vendors.
• Track and expedite supplier orders to ensure on-time delivery and uninterrupted production.
• Serve as primary contact for suppliers and support vendor performance evaluations.
• Support compliance with purchasing procedures, Sarbanes-Oxley, and ISO requirements.
• Ability to travel occasionally for vendor visits.

The Buyer and Planner plays a key role in supporting production operations by ensuring materials are available when needed, managing inventory accuracy, and coordinating purchasing activities. This position helps maintain efficient production schedules and supports continuous improvement initiatives within a Lean manufacturing environment.

The salary range for this position is $21 to $26 per hour with potential to earn an annual bonus.
