Job summary

The Buckle, Inc. is looking for a Leader in Training and Floor Leader in Union Gap, Washington. Overview

The Leader in Training (LIT) and Floor Leader position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement: “To create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The LIT and Floor Leader performs a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). The role works directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership.

Core duties include:

  • Sales generation and guest service.
  • Teammate recruiting, training and development.
  • Visual merchandise management.
  • Operations support.
  • Supervisory and leadership functions (no formal supervisory responsibilities).
Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $18–$22 per hour. Final offers based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job‑related factors. For sales positions, Buckle pays a base rate plus 3% commission on sales.

Responsibilities
Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs and desires.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest needs by suggesting additional items.
  • Demonstrate product utilizing product knowledge and sales education; share knowledge with teammates.
  • Maintain current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by store management.
  • Provide service throughout the store in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
  • Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures and use them as show‑manship opportunities.
  • Fill out and use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
  • Expand guest selection through advanced product search, iPad apps, and inventory manager.
  • Build and maintain good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with high level of show‑manship, excellent customer service, and attentiveness.
  • Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team.
  • Ask business‑driven and show‑manship questions to managers, team leaders and teammates.
  • Remain coachable to allow managers to educate on sales presentation.
  • Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether or not the manager is present.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Identify recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and teammate recommend.
  • Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating and educating new teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times and foster a positive floor culture.
  • Model personal dress code to encourage and coach teammates and team leaders.
  • Participate effectively in daily setup, training, impacting and reviewing while using the Performance Tracker.
  • Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks.
  • Demonstrate passion to coach denim show‑manship and denim fit cards through teammates and guests.
  • Create results in your department and balance all DM actions within the segment.
  • Demonstrate leadership actions during segment (e.g., awareness of guests, getting guests involved, vouching, getting guest names, working side/groups).
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership: product knowledge, placement, passion, preference; weekly checklist; lifecycle; track results.
  • Assign zones and projects to teammates daily with specific learning goals.
  • Confirm teammates meet visual standards and weekly visual checklist during their shift.
  • Execute and demonstrate new tools and videos that apply to zone ownership.
  • Identify merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and lifecycle of product, and communicate recommendations to the store manager.
  • Provide informational and influential store tours.
  • Ensure sales floor is consistently sized and new freight appropriately displayed.
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday days as needed.
  • Use the person planner to complete opening and closing checklists.
  • Identify security risks and thefts and know how to prevent or handle them.
  • Follow all loss prevention guidelines including bag and purse checks.
  • Execute and teach all point‑of‑sale procedures.
  • Handle corporate calls appropriately.
  • Know Buckle guidelines for returns and exchanges.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Execute all payment, exchange and loss‑prevention policies.
  • Navigate and use all store website tools.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to all non‑sales positions.
  • Complete all scheduled shifts and cover shifts when needed.
  • Provide feedback to store manager and leadership regarding merchandise handling concerns.
  • Communicate policy violations and teammate or guest concerns confidentially to store manager, district manager or human resources.
  • Keep store clean, organized, and shoppable.
  • Apply Buckle’s code of ethics and all Buckle policies and handbooks.
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Give and receive feedback from peers and management.
  • Support leadership.
  • Promote personal and store growth.
  • Maintain professional, mature and stable relationship with teammates.
  • Fulfill the mission statement through high‑level customer service and positive team spirit.
  • Take on special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

The role requires standing, walking, using hands to handle and feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, speaking or hearing. The individual may sit occasionally. The physical ability to lift and maneuver 50 lb continuously throughout the store and backroom is required. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Works in a retail store setting with moderate noise levels.
