Summary

The Leader in Training (LIT) and Floor Leader is responsible for creating the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests. They perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks assigned by store management such as cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities. The role works directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide on‑floor leadership.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $16-$19/hr. The range is the budgeted amount and final offers are based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other factors.

For sales positions Buckle pays a base rate plus commission on sales. The listed range is the estimated base rate plus commission.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Sales Generation and Guest Service

  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
  • Answer store and merchandise questions.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on Guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate products using product knowledge and sales education; share knowledge with team.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices.
  • Maintain personal sales; seek opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).
  • Achieve sales‑per‑hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by store management.
  • Provide legendary service in front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
  • Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures and use them as a show‑manship opportunity.
  • Fill out and use the SPG daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty activities.
  • Investigate and expand Guest selection through inventory manager and advanced product search.
  • Build and maintain good Guest relationships.
  • Lead by example with high show‑manship, customer service and attentiveness.
  • Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the team.
  • Ask business‑driven and show‑manship questions to manager, team leaders, and teammates.
  • Be coachable – allow manager to educate regarding sales presentation.
  • Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards when manager is present or absent.

Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development

  • Identify recruiting opportunities via Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals, and Teammate Recommend.
  • Assist in leading, directing, motivating, and educating new teammates to meet accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive attitude to create a positive floor culture.
  • Demonstrate personal dress code and coach teammates in fashion.
  • Participate in daily setup, training, impact, and review utilizing the Performance Tracker.
  • Motivate teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks.
  • Demonstrate leadership during segment reviews: awareness of Guests, engagement, vocal updates, Guest name collection, and collaborative sales approach.

Visual Merchandise Management

  • Own and influence product through zone ownership: product knowledge, placement, weekly checklist, life cycle, and tracking results.
  • Assign zones and projects to teammates with learning goals.
  • Ensure teammates follow visual standards, library, and weekly visual checklist.
  • Execute and demonstrate new tools and videos related to zone ownership.
  • Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations.
  • Guide teammates through store tours.
  • Maintain consistently sized sales floor and display new freight appropriately.

Operations

  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Use planners to complete opening and closing checklists.
  • Identify and manage security risks and thefts.
  • Follow loss prevention guidelines and bag/purse checks.
  • Execute POS procedures and handle corporate calls.
  • Know Buckle guidelines for returns and exchanges.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with Guests or teammates.
  • Execute all payment, exchange, and loss prevention policies.
  • Use tools on the home page and provide guidance to all partners.
  • Cover scheduled shifts and manage shift needs.
  • Provide feedback on merchandise handling concerns.
  • Report policy violations and concerns confidentially to management and HR.
  • Maintain a clean, organized store.
  • Apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and policies.

Supervisory and Leadership

  • Provide and receive feedback from peers and management.
  • Support leadership initiatives.
  • Promote personal and store growth.
  • Maintain professional, mature relationships with teammates.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED, or 1–3 months of related retail experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

Regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, sit, lift and maneuver up to 50lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Typical retail store setting with moderate noise levels.
